Modernisation

Off Baan, without describing your processes all over again. Legacy ERP customisations and ageing business software, analysed first and then converted with AI to modern Java and Wercstat ERP.

When custom software becomes a risk

Many companies run on custom software that was built years ago and still does its job every day. The risk is not in what it does, but in who can still maintain it: Baan IV and older Infor LN customisations for which fewer and fewer developers can be found, or business software whose knowledge sits with one person. The longer modernisation waits, the bigger that risk.

Your current system is the specification

A classic modernisation project starts with months of writing requirements for a system that already exists. We turn that around. The source code and table definitions of your current system record exactly what it does; that makes them the specification. We convert that code with AI to modern Java and Wercstat ERP:

  • In: the source code and table definitions of your customisations, for example Baan IV 4GL or Infor LN customisations.

  • Out: modules on Wercbanc, our framework, building on the Wercstat ERP base modules (inventory, shipping, trade, warehousing). Code you own, regenerated from one model.

Because the Wercstat ERP data model is close to Baan IV’s, the conversion stays manageable. And because the specification already exists, a conversion can be done at a fixed price.

Analysis first

Not every system needs the same path. Every project therefore starts with an analysis of what is there: which customisations are still in use, what they do, what they connect to and what has become redundant. That gives the choice per part:

  • Convert to Wercstat ERP, if the ERP itself is due for replacement.

  • Convert to modern Java next to the existing ERP, if that ERP stays.

  • Leave it, if the part works well and stays maintainable.

Why Van Kessel IT

Few parties combine knowledge of Baan IV and Infor LN with modern Java, a working ERP of their own to convert onto, and full-time AI-first development. We have built ERP customisations since 1996, Baan and Infor LN among them, and we build the ERP and the framework they move to ourselves. For you that means one party for the analysis, the conversion and the system afterwards.

Why the math for modernisation changed this year is in our article The AI math for legacy software has fundamentally changed.
